# What is EMV and can tiptap accept EMV Chip Cards?

tiptap gladly accepts EMV cards. EMV stands for "EuroPay Mastercard Visa" and was created as a way to protect consumers from fraud. Visa and Mastercard have provided us waivers to use our device terminal with their endorsement until our device terminals are fully certified.
